A demonstration rally held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 in the New York City landmark Union Square for letting the world community, people, and the government of the United States know about Russia’s government making harsher its colonial policies toward the Kalmyk ethnic group and other minorities surviving under the iron chains of the Russian Empire, and these days under the Russian Government of the bloody regime of President Vladimir Putin, a rally in support of those struggling for the rights and freedom of self-determination and sovereignty.
Holding the rally at Union Square Park, right under the equestrian statue of horse rider George Washington, the first President of the United States.
We usually hold systematic rallies on Sundays in recent years in another part of Union Square, on the stage, demonstrating in the northern part of Union Square, between Broadway and Park Avenue.
But this time we found that the entire square was a fair, the iconic market known as the Union Square Greenmarket. It offers fresh local produce, live and cut flowers, handmade crafts, seasonal specialties, fruits and vegetables, and much more.
However, this market takes all the place.
We had no choice but to move our rally to the southern part of the park, right under the George Washington monument. The location proved to be symbolic, since the demonstration was devoted to protesting Russia’s colonial policies toward the Oirat-Kalmyk and other ethnic minority groups who were conquered and enslaved by the Russian Empire.
And George Washington was one of the leaders of the American War of Independence against British colonial rule. After all, this year the U.S. is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its independence. How symbolic!

New York City, Sunday, March 29th 2026, The recent arrests in Russia of political activists representing indigenous ethnic minorities of Asian descent who are speaking out in protest against the harsh policies of the Russian government against people who fight for the rights of indigenous ethnic people have caused much more fear and resentment within the fraternity “Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People”. That bad fact forced us to picket in front of U.N. headquarters to convey to the world community how violent and ruthless Russia has been acting lately toward ethnic minorities.

Among the activists were Dalantaeva Elena on the left, Dalantaev Baatr, and Dalantaeva Elina with placards calling for the release of political activists Baltykov Eduard, Ochirov Altan, Egereva Daria, Arna Aruna, Kikeev Evgeny, and Aleksandrova Sasha.

San Mateo, California, U.S. Congressman Hon. Kevin Mullin, representing California's 15th District, personally invited the ethnic Kalmyk family of Chingis Gariaev, an activist for the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People, his wife, Arina, daughter Milana, and son Lev. The meeting was notably heartfelt, with the family receiving warm welcomes also from all team members in his office.

Being busy with routine job tasks in transportation, one of our esteemed members, who is constantly doing everything to let the world community know about the problems of ethnic Oirat-Kalmyks, stands at busy places around the New York City Metro with one-person pickets. Aldar Mandzhiev, with two different banners, stands at two locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

July 20th 2025, Political Activists, gathered a “Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People” organized Rally in one of the New York City landmark, Union Square, to celebrate a traditional Captive Nations Week is an annual event in the United States, typically observed during the third week of July, that aims to raise awareness and express solidarity with people living under oppressive, non-democratic regimes. It was officially established in 1959 to highlight the plight of nations under communist domination, particularly those within the communist Soviet Union bloc. Such Captive Nations is included a Poland,East Germany,Czechoslovakia,Hungary,Bulgaria,Romania .The week encourages activities and ceremonies reaffirming the commitment to freedom and justice for all countries, even for all nations to get freedom, and the rally pays tribute to the United States of America government, which is strong with freedoms and rights worldwide.

Kalmyk activists Bairta Baktysheva participated in a picket in Union Square, Manhattan, to raise awareness of Kalmyk resistance to the cruelty of the Russian Government on April 1, 2025.

Kalmyk political activist Gariaev Chingis, accompanied by his spouse Arina and their son Lev, March 25th, 2025, convened a demonstration at a landmark place, City Hall, in San Francisco. Through this action, they aimed to raise awareness among the global community that the Kalmyks, who have faced discrimination, are pursuing sovereignty and demanding respect for their fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Two prominent members, Chingis Gariaev and Arslan Kitaev, participating in a protest in San Francisco, aim to draw international attention to a Kalmyk prisoner of conscience, Altan Ochirov, who is currently being held and tortured in a Russian prison due to his affiliation with the Kalmyk Resistance, known as the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People.

On May 22nd, 2024, the Kalmyk activist couple Dombaeva Delgir and her spouse, Badmaev Sanal, were at Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, New York, taking part in a picket addressed to the world community about the harmful effects of colonial dependence, which has led to the disappearance of Kalmyk heritage itself due to the genocide continued by the Russian government regime against small ethnic minorities of Asian race, forcing them, in fear of imprisonment, to leave Russia and seek asylum in the U.S.
